Puppy & Kitten Wellness: A Healthy Beginning

Berks County puppy and kitten care

Congratulations on your new pet! We know that welcoming a new puppy or kitten to the family is very exciting, but it can also be overwhelming, too. Young pets are full of energy and curiosity and can be a handful to manage in the beginning. We are here to help!

As soon as you bring your new pet home, please contact us to schedule your pet’s first wellness exam. It is essential that we start your pet off on the right track so that you will enjoy many happy years together. All young pets are particularly susceptible to numerous infections and parasites.

Our recommendations about nutrition, vaccinations, and parasite control will be tailor made for your pet depending on his or her specific risks, age, and lifestyle.

Your Puppy’s First Exam

When you bring your new puppy to our animal hospital, Dr. Mike Comalli will conduct a thorough physical examination, from “nose to tail.” In addition, we may also take blood work so that we have a reference point for any future medical issues.

The most important part of your young dog’s health will be a vaccination plan that ensures your puppy does not get any potentially dangerous diseases while his or her immune system is still so young. Vaccinations we may discuss include:

  • Lyme
  • Distemper/hepatitis/parainfluenza/parvovirus (DHPP)
  • Leptospirosis
  • Rabies
  • Bordatella

Your Kitten’s First Checkup

We love kittens at Conrad Weiser Animal Hospital and take care to handle kittens with extra TLC. Kittens are given a thorough physical examination, and their risks are accessed. Recommended vaccinations may include:

  • Rhinotracheitis/calicivirus/panleukepenia (FVRCP)
  • Rabies
  • Feline leukemia vaccine
  • Feline leukemia and AIDS (FIV) testing is important

No matter whether you are bringing a new puppy or a new kitten, we will be sure to spend enough time with you to answer all of the questions you may have. We are happy to make suggestions regarding nutrition, behavior, health concerns, or any other topic you suggest. Our Affordable Wellness Plans are an easy and cost-effective way to ensure your new pets preventative veterinary health care needs are being met. We look forward to meeting you and your new pet!

Heat Stroke in Dogs

Heat Stroke in Dogs

Even in relatively mild climates like ours, the heat index can create dangerous circumstances for pets and people alike. The combination of rising temperatures, scorching UV rays, and suffocating humidity force many of us indoors where we can enjoy the hum of air conditioning all summer long.  Active dogs may not recognize the adverse effects […]

And while most of us are helpless against the overwhelming cute factor attached to kittens and puppies, there is truly nothing like […]
