Veterinary orthopedic surgery addresses bones, joints, muscles, and ligaments. If your pet is favoring a leg, is having trouble getting up, or seems to be slowing down, there may be a problem with his or her joints. Sudden limping or pain or the abnormal appearance of a leg could indicate a bone or joint injury. Whatever symptoms your pet may display, we encourage you to contact us right away so that we can treat your pet and make him or her comfortable.
The veterinarians at Conrad Weiser Animal Hospital have extensive experience treating orthopedic issues in cats and dogs. We diagnose the problem by combining your observations along with the results of our own orthopedic and imaging (X-ray) examinations. Depending on your pet’s condition, we may recommend rest and medications or more advanced treatment, including surgery.
Some of the commonly treated conditions at Conrad Weiser Animal Hospital are:
-
ACL/CCL tears
Knee problems commonly affect breeds such as retrievers, pit bulls, and Rottweilers. Symptoms of a cranial cruciate ligament tear can include sudden lameness, intermittent limping, or very mild limping or stiffness that progressively becomes worse. -
Fracture repairs
Remedies include bone plating, pin and wires, splinting, or casting, depending on the severity and location of the fracture. -
Genetic joint problems
Hip dysplasia, luxating patellas, and osteochondritis dissecans (OCD) cause discomfort and lameness in many pet’s joints. Each condition can be helped with a combination of medicines and/or surgery.
If you notice that your pet is displaying any symptoms of lameness or pain, no matter how minor, we urge you to contact us immediately so that we can address the issue and make your pet comfortable as soon as possible. As with any medical problem, early detection often predicts a positive outcome.

That being said, however, younger pets generally enjoy faster adoption rates than older ones. And while most of us are helpless against the overwhelming cute factor attached to kittens and puppies, there is truly nothing like […]
